Bike to School

The City of Carmel is celebrating National Bike Month in May and Wednesday, May 6th has been designated National Bike to School Day.  Last year hundreds of Carmel Clay students participated in Bike to School Day activities.  This year seven Carmel Clay elementary schools have activities planned for Bike to School Day on the morning of May 6th. Carmel Elementary, College Wood Elementary, Creekside Middle School, Mohawk Trails Elementary, Orchard Park Elementary, Prairie Trace Elementary, and West Clay Elementary are encouraging students to walk or bike to school.  If your morning commute is near any of these elementary schools, please use extra caution when driving.

Schools across the country will be organizing bike to school promotional activities and events on Bike to School Day, in an effort to reduce the number of short car trips on the daily school-run.  Bike to School events work to create safer routes for bicycling and walking and emphasize the importance of a range of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, cyclist and pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.  Please contact David Littlejohn at the City of Carmel at 571-2417 if you have any questions.

Carmel has annually been designated a bronze level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists from 2006 through 2015 and recently established a bike rental program.
