Carmel 2014 Star Library

The Carmel Library has been named a 2014 Star Library by the 'Library Journal' Index of Public Library Service.  This is a comparison of U.S. public libraries with their peers in similar budget categories based on four types of output measures of their per capita use.

To receive an LJ Index rating a library must satisfy these criteria:

  • Meet the IMLS definition of a public library
  • Have a service area with at least 1,000 population
  • Have a total operating expenditure of at least $10,000
  • Report the four service output statistics:  library visits, circulation, public access computer use, and program attendance.

The Carmel Library is one of nine libraries in Indiana to receive a Star Library rating this year.  This is the first time the Carmel Library has made the list.
