Remembrance Ceremony

Carmel's Day of Remembrance Ceremony to commemorate the Holocaust will be on Friday, May 2nd at noon at the Trakington Theater, 3 Center Green, Carmel.

The program will include a keynote address by Mr. Phil Lande, a Second Generation Survivor.  Mr. Lande's father, Alexander Lande, was the sole survivor of his family who lived in Transylvania, Romania.  His father was in Auschwitz, then sent to a work camp and finally to Dachau where he escaped with the help of a German soldier.

Mayor Jim Brainard will read a Civic Proclamation and offer remarks.  Rabbi Benjamin Sendrow of Congregation Shaarey Tefilla will act as Master of Ceremonies.  Rabbi Stanly Halpern of Congregation Beth Shalom will lead the Mourner's Kaddish.  Michael Wallack representing the Mayor's advisory Commission on Human Relations will share remarks.  Musical performance will be provided by Arnie Lewin, Carmel United Methodist Church Bell Choir and University High School Choir.

The public is invited.  A light lunch will follow the program.
