Memorial Day Ceremony

The City of Carmel will be holding a Memorial day Ceremony on May 22nd at 9 a.m. to remember those who have served our country.

It will take place at the Carmel Clay Veterans Memorial Plaza located near the SW corner of Thirs Avenue SV and City Center Drive in City Center.

The rain location is The Tarkington Theater at The Center for The Performing Arts, Three Center Green, Carmel

The ceremony includes remarks by Carmel City Attorney Douglas C. Haney, Army Veterans and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Carmel Clay Township Trustee Doug Callahan with students from Midwest Academy in Carmel.  The keynote speaker will be Commander Billy D Franklin who graduated from the Naval Academy in May 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in History. Earning his wings in November 1997, he reported to Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island to fly the EA-6B Prowler.  While assigned to VAZ-133, he made three deployments to Saudi Arabia and Incirlik, Turkey where he flew in support of Operation NORTHERN and SOUTHERN WATCH enforcing the no fly zone over Iraq

Members of the local American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) posts will participate in a flag raising ceremony and flowers will be placed at the Memorial to commemorate all military veterans.
